CLEVELAND-HARRIS THEATRE COMPANY

Theatre | Performance | Public Imagination

We use the power of theatre, performance & storytelling to envision other worlds, inspire cultural transformation, and advance social change.

CLEVELAND-HARRIS THEATRE COMPANY is a Minneapolis-based theatre, interdisciplinary arts and public imagination project that uses the power of performance and storytelling to explore our humanity and the allure of the mythic, magical and otherworldly — while envisioning cultural, social, environmental, collective and individual transformation. Founded and led by award-winning playwright and performing artist Rebecca Nichloson, we:

  • Create original theatre, performance and literary works informed by queer sensibilities, with emphasis on the personal as radical
  • Provide opportunities for BIPOC & Queer actors, performers, and theatre professionals to collaborate on new works
  • Offer public imagination labs that convene artists and writers to envision solutions to community challenges, deeper engagement with their work, and opportunities for artistic growth

The power of theatre, performance, and storytelling have been used for centuries to create community, examine the depths of the human condition, and advance change. CLEVELAND-HARRIS is passionate about envisioning worlds of wonder that evoke transformation. We create a shared experience between audience and performer, narrative and movement; making space for connection, exploration, and the empathy that drive social change.

We acknowledge that our work takes place on the ancestral lands of the Dakota, Anishanaabe and Ojibwe peoples, and that we live in a country that has (and continues to) benefit from the legacy of American slavery. We stand in solidarity with the Indigenous peoples of Mni Sota Makoce and the African American community in their continued fight for justice.
